The goal of this blog is to provide a forum for discussion, debate, and research sports.

But in the interest of full disclosure the authors of this blog (Phil and Jay) are both from the Philadelphia area.  Thus our natural sports rooting interests are towards the hometown teams.

That said, the goal of this blog is to have an objective discussion on why or why not a sports star is worthy of being inducted as a member of their sports’ respective Hall of Fame.

  1. What do you think are a few why or why not reasons someone should be inducted as a member of the HoF? I think just as importantly of “on the field reasons” (passing yards, rushing yards, points scored, % completion) are, does anyone feel “off field” reasons should be taken into consideration? Or is this “sports” and “sports only” nothing outside of that matters?

      Going Green,

Not sure if there is a right answer, but for the most part, I would say that it should be based on the on-field accomplishments. However, I could see an argument here for being an “ambassador” of your sport and being held to a professional standard off the field as well.

I also believe it is what they player accomplishes on the field. However, statistics are not always the best way to decide this. I feel there are many players that may get overlooked because we look purely at the stats. Many times players have a profound effect on games just being on the field. Coaches have to game plan around their gifts for making things happen every time they are playing that they do everything in their power to keep plays away from them, limiting their own team’s effectiveness.
